14 days…

Emily on the Green Bike, Calgary.

There’s a boat in Cape Town that is, apparently, prepping to take off in 14 days. I’ve been ghostly stalking the project for awhile now and, now with a route change, they are planning on heading around the world.

Leaving from Cape Town.

I’m excited to see this boat set sail. It’s design is interesting and it’s been built to haul 600L of water in it’s holds.. and there is SO MUCH ROOM inside I can’t get over it! My boat is a *scant* 46″ side to side at the pilots chair  meaning she’s more of a “cigarette” style boat- long and narrow.

The choice, of mine, to go with a long and narrow boat came from my windsurfing days.. I had a Cobra 260 Slalom.. a sub 90L board that had three linear footstraps and was a low- production “copy” of a board that held the world speed record so.. it was 260cm long and~ at the footstraps it was just about a “foot” wide. Not 12″ .. one of my feet width. Long(ish), narrow.. and FAST!

Kadence.. on the Felt S22, Calgs!

I’m curious to see what takes place when the boat starts moving.. with it’s “soft rubber propeller” and 600L of water in stowage. And the weather on top of all that! Apparently, there are “high waves” recorded, currently, and weather isn’t the greatest overall. Hmm- it never really is in that area, apparently. And with the Central/ North Atlantic headding in to Hurricane season, the effect on S. Atlantic weathe is undeniable.

Don’t get me wrong- I want them to set sail. They can take off first, for sure! But I do NOT want them to die! The Atlantic is kinda like Lake Superior- calm and subdued one moment and then whipped up in to a frothy frenzy a MOMENT later. Squalls.. swells.. surprises aplenty are there.

I’m doing a TON of work behind the scenes right now. Finishing up Sponsorship documents, Support documents, web work.. and setting up an Art Show/ Sale in Kelowna (with Name The Boat tie- in).. and taking over management of The General Bean.. lots of work that is keeping me away from my boat. But, I’ll be in Calgs shortly.. either late Feb or early March.. then I’ll be taking her to Kelowna to fiberglass her and take her out for some fun on- the- water testing!

that dange prologue

Some people ask me.. or ponder..
..why am I different?

Self, in Grade Thirteen, Albert College.. the year of my audition to UofW theatre program.

I had “I’m Different, so SUE ME” sharpied on my military surplus fatigues during grade fourteen.. and one person actually took me up on the challenge 😉

But- what made me different?

When I went to University of Windsor for my “audition” .. I chose to recite the prologue to George Bernar Shaw’s “Caesar and Cleopatra” which was a monologue by RA, the egyptian god. You can read it HERE.. but I’ll record my recitation.. or re- recitation shortly, with vocal processing & creative audio elements added for good measure.

I recited the whole fucking thing

They asked me what I wanted to do with a theatrical degree..
NO FUCKING IDEA, man… but holy fuck- a 17 year old just recited the prologue to GB Shaw’s Ceasar and Cleopatra and you aren’t impressed? Sure, I did it with a bit of Bourne- esque camera flutter on the vocal chords since I was hung over/ still drunk but I didn’t lose a word and my inflections were mine own! And they werent impressed..

long and short of it all- I’ve always been different!

Anyhow.. I’m passionate about the arts.  I want to PROMOTE the arts and the artists through this project. Nudity might be included. Have fun with it… have fun with it ALL!

bout a year ago.. Art Market, Calgary.. a few aisles away was @feedyourbeardyyc and so many other friends .. while we are happy with our growth and changes, i cant say that a small piece of me doesnt miss market weekends…via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DRS4uvgkluR/

archie…bunker

so, its probably not a great idea to dip a toe in to the Bunker Fuel/ Container Ship ecogical issue lake.. to peer down the rabbit hole of Container Shipping a whole 5 minutes after going to bed…

bicycle stats are easier for me to remember .. but i did just see a couple container ships today, in Kitimat.. the size of which would drop your jaw.. would make you faint.

One ship, the size of which was definitely daunting and impressive, was adorned with two deck crane structures of a style you’d see spanning massive heavy machinery shops.. either one of which was apparently capable of hauling multiple millions of pounds of material.. both cranes on track systems to roll foreward/ aft in order to load.. multiple millions of pounds of material in to holds properly and efficiently.

Fun Fact:
bunker fuel is the dirtiest, cheapest fuel around.. it’s also what 99% of all cargo ships use.

Shipping was, quite possibly, my introduction to oligarchy back in the 80’s when I was looking in to buying a sailboat to circumnavigate the globe. What I found out was that most insurance companies are just underwriters.. or the person that does the calculations based on information provided by the consumer and the Insurance Company itself. And, when it comes to ships.. there is only ONE insuring company- Lloyds Register out of London, UK!

Me with my step father re- packing my tent after it was laid out to dry.. following a bout of mileage added to my legs. Circa 1991, prior to purchase of my kit (and subsequent replacement of this tent).

boatwerkz

quick note..

the life of my love.. and she loves cycling!! She’s a bit bigger now (14).. but such an awesome person.

i thought that the boat I am working on, have been slowly working on for a few sporadic years, is the boat in which I’ll circle the globe….

nope… its just the FORM!

when, next, i get to the boatshed for work, i’ll be using her just as a working form.. laying up EPS foam boards on to her so they keep shape and epoxying the fibreglass fabric in place.

this means TheBoat will be massively lighter- which means quicker.. and it should speed up the build process!!

its a small change but, to me- it means a lot.

Horizon View

I was curious tonight…

suburinator

Feeling a little exhausted after a full day of working in the trailer without heat.. working hard to keep body temp up as cold comes knocking on the door.. so rather than researching bike shops and eco orgs and stuff like that.. I decided to learn something.

Well, I didn’t learn the formula.. I mean, I understand it but I can’t repeat it.. but what it does is calculate your Distance to Horizon based on elevation above sea level.

So, off the top of my cabin.. if I was looking out the hatch at the world around me.. my Distance to Horizon would be about 4.5Km for a 9Km view circumference. And this is why I am adding in a 5M carbon/ fiberglass MAST…

moving the VIEWPOINT up by 5 meters (for a total of about 6.5 meters or 22′) my Horizon grows to 9.25Km.. or an 18.5 Km Horizon Circumference.

“Lightning McBean” or, to me— my daughter– hauling her ride outta the car after a long night of BMX racing strider style.. races that she won, hands down, OBVIE!

So, I’ll be running powered webcams.. the cameras used in racing drones that WiFi back to the headset.. they usually have an on- board power source (on the drone) but I’ll be running long power cables (why cabled power? simple: USB has a max run of 5M before you add in a powered booster.. the mast is 5M.. so, needing a teensy bit of cable to run from the mast top to the camera, I’m already at 5M MAX… but POWER can run longer… so, the camera config is WiFi but the power is controlled inside the cabin).. four different ANDROID tablets (‘cuz mac tablets don’t let you use external webcams) connecting to four different web cams that overlap in view but are 5M above the upper deck of TheBoat.. so I’ll have nearly 20Km of view.

I’ll be sitting there in an extreme recumbent position.. tablets blazing my approach and where I been.. and I’m doing this to motivate 1 Million Cars to PARK!!!!

November 02, 2025 at 05:01PM

#OneMillionParkedCars! If ONE MILLION cars were parked.. we’d #breatheeasier, our streets would be #lesscongested.. and over a BILLION Kg of co2e would NOT be released in to the atmosphere meaning- as we’ve just past a #CoralReefTippingPoint.. we might slow our #climatecatastrophe DOWN a little bit.

#Stopdriving.. #ParkTheCar.. #RideYourBike!

how many people bought and started riding during COVID only to rack their rides once it was “over” ??? Well, I urge you to pull it down.. DUST it off.. and get riding once again!

I’m going to CIRCLE the planet in a pedal powered boat.. lease you can do is commute to and from work by bike.via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DQks4y1kljE/

Teeny Tiny Art Collective..

Just a couple words about a side project…

A couple folks who came down in to Bowness and toured the 8 galleries with their pooch.

I’ve been doing a TON of work behind the scenes on this site and other sites in “the network” and.. with all this coding momentum going on, I kept working and tuned up the Teeny Tiny Art Collective that I run with my wife/ life partner SparkleFaerie (and I just found a URL I can use for her archive website YAY!!!!)

Anyhow- we’re prepping for Season Two of The Teeny Tiny Art Collective and it’s already shaping up to be AWESOME! We have four exhibitions- art shows that all open with an art walk.. we walk from one to another tiny gallery and~ usually~ the artist gives a bit of a talk about their piece. It’s super awesome and I’ll be video taping the walks this year for broadcast in the Stream 0 Thon hybrid events.

We’re networking with some of the local artists and art affecionados for onsite presence but I’ll be in Calgary for the first and second show.. The Boat will be heading out to do it’s test run right after the second show (and hey- if I’m fast enough.. I might be back in Calgs by the third show! Who knows).

Anyhow- pretty psyched.
