The #transmission..
I’ve #pirated the rear end of a #garyfisherbikes #Joshua X-1.. it’s called a “URT” or.. Unified Rear Triangle as the Bottom Bracket (where the crank arms meet) and the Rear Hub are connected in one rigid triangular configuration that is, then, floated against the mainframe by a pivot point and shock.

**but.. GEARS on a boat?**
I decided to use gears because our bodies go through physiological changes in energy levels throughout the day so, while I might not be pushing up hills, I want to make powered progress through pedaling all day long.. the gears mean that when I’m energized, I can flip it to 9th and CHUNDER.. and when I’m gassed.. I can slip it in to first and still be pushing my boat forward!

So, the trick is.. to build a solid enough mount that the URT is fixed nice and sturdy- like to the cockpit floor. I see “pouring epoxy” in my future.

and pouring cement for the counterweight ;)via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DNd2aD4S8Dw/

the core of my #Transmission…

First, we have a 9spd disk capable hub.. the disk #rotor being replaced with a 16 tooth cog..

Next we have the red double fixie.. a double disk hub with both rotors being replaced with 16 tooth cogs..

The #purpose of having #gears on a boat.. a Pedal Powered boat is to maximize the physiological changes my body will be going through as I pedal for 10 to 16 hours each day. When #CHARGED, I can slide in to 9th and #chunder.. when #GASSED I can slide up to first and nearly coast- but always be making #pressured #progress!via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DNY2nYiSVko/

circa 2000 with #SparkleFaerie operating my F5.. abuse #taught me to NOT talk about my F5 a lot.. why? Because of #INVESTING in my future of #photography rather than paying back a loan.. to family.. family that abused me as a child and on into #adulthood.

#abuse can cause debilitating pain.. and I am not really near absolution.. but I am working on my own self right now and #oceancyclist is a vehicle for artistic, spiritual, and personal growth. #follow to learn more about mental health, sustainability.. and how the #AlphaMale #Domineering #Ideology is so #inaccurate and #WRONG.

I also told SparkleFaerie that you *cant* shoot an out of focus shot w/ the F5.. she proved me wrong 😉

She also #proved me #wrong in that she is the #mother of my child.. and a whole lot more than that. So, I #celebrate her each and every day and thank her for #deciding that I was #worthwhile enough to spend the rest of her life with.. it’s been a long, #strange journey but she’s still there.. every #morning.via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DNYr41ayD3x/

Be Proud…

I come from an industry that definitely isn’t *precise* as boat building is.. and my tools are rough and produce rough cuts. I’m hoping to get A) a table saw and B) a Mitre Saw soon so that my cuts can be more precise and accurate.. my saw blades tend to drift off of their “compased devine” according to their own inspiration.

Proud Brad Nails.

But, one thing that I’m happy about is that I have learned a thing or two about making a difference. In this, I’m refering to my new Nail Gun and how reviews of the machine said it gunned the nails in “proud.” PROUD refers to when something is supposed to be flush but.. it isn’t. As we see, at right, the board has PROUD nails sticking out. But that cool little tool beside the board is a Spring Loaded Nail tool.. point it at the nail, pull the other end back and let it SPROING and.. no more proud nail! It’s pretty cool.. and yeah, I’ve gone through a couple of them- that’s how many square feet of commercial painting I’ve done.

After Sproing! We see the nail is, now, seated properly. So, even though I don’t have killer tools and my cuts are messy.. some things I can take care of. Also, I can PAINT this boat like there’s no tomorrow! Next visit, I’m hoping to give a couple coats of water sealing colour to the cockpit.. all one colour ideally.

The “featured image” above is a shot of The Boatshed as it is today.. proud to say it’s a bit cleaned up and so is a bit easier to work in.. not massively easier but that’s for another day. The boat is, sadly, getting to be too long for the space so, I’m having to think long and hard about wheather to move her or not. Not sure. We’ll see.
